New partnership to yield greener grass in civil construction

Fine particle specialist RST Solutions has announced a partnership with New Zealand’s hydroseeding company, Instant Green, to solve unique problems for clients.

The collaboration between RST Solutions and Instant Green was officially announced following the arrival of a shipment of advanced, all-purpose formula Guardian to supply New Zealand’s civil construction, mining, quarrying and agricultural projects with tailored solutions for a wide range of unique difficulties involving dust, erosion and sediment control.

New Zealand sits on a fault line between two tectonic plates, with raw earth materials vastly different on each side and resource projects are often located across both regions, dealing with different clays, ashes, mud, rock, sand and silt.

RST Solutions has been supplier of advanced products to Instant Green for a few years and the two companies have now formed a new partnership, taking the next step to providing advanced services and products for the New Zealand market.

RST Solutions’ depth of expertise, gained over the 30 years specialising in the field of fine particulate matter, is being utilised by Instant Green, a family owned and operated business in New Zealand under the leadership of second-generation managing director Ashton Currie.

This partnership enables Instant Green to deliver to clients tailored solutions for specific site conditions and other environmental factors that create major issues for infrastructure and mining projects.

RST Solutions operations and technical director David Handel says the partnership with Instant Green is the result of successfully working together to achieve good results in New Zealand.

“After working with Instant Green for many years in a supplier-related capacity, we are pleased to be in a position to announce this partnership to deliver more solutions for Instant Green’s clients and ours,” Handel says.

“The first shipment of our advanced technology Guardian for the control of dust, erosion and sediment will enable Instant Green to have an immediate supply this summer, when the weather conditions are unfavourable for many projects, regarding dust and erosion.

“RST’s Guardian product will solve a lot of issues caused by excessive wet or dry conditions as it can be tailored to improve all types of earthen materials with different doses and application methods.

“New Zealand is unique as it is one of the most dynamic places on earth geologically. It is part of the Ring of Fire – the circum-Pacific seismic belt with a fault line down the middle of the country, marked by frequent earthquakes and considerable volcanic activity. New Zealand endures a high level of tectonic activity and continuing cycle of geological events, giving it a complex geology that requires individualised treatment for materials being used.

“Problems on the West Coast of the South Island are very different to the East Coast of the North Island. From its glaciated peaks to its coastline there are active volcanoes, ragged cliffs, glacial fjords and sandy soils, so the dosage levels and best methods of application need to be addressed differently.

“This partnership between RST Solutions and Instant Green is highly beneficial for some of our existing clients who don’t have their own application equipment to apply our products.

“Instant Green will be able to provide solutions for New Zealand mining and infrastructure construction companies dealing with complex geological composition and structure caused by the high level of tectonic activity and continuous cycle of geological events.”

Under the leadership of Currie, Instant Green has grown to become one of the country’s top solutions providers for hydro-mulching, hydro seeding and dust control, with the largest hydroseeding units in the country.

The partnership further expands Instant Green’s deliverables to clients, opening up opportunities for both RST Solutions and Instant Green to solve more complex issues for dust, erosion and environmental issues, and branch into new industries.

“We are excited to embark on this new era with this collaboration between RST Solutions and Instant Green – it will be interesting to see what kind of problems we can solve together,” Currie says.

“With the new Government’s fast-tracked bill, we are seeing a lot of projects coming online, with materials varying greatly from project to project. That’s where RST’s ability to customise products to suit unique conditions will be handy for assisting these projects.

“Because we have our own equipment, we can also assist RST’s clients who don’t have their own equipment to apply the products. With top-of-the-line equipment and motivated staff, we can do it easily for them, so this is a good opportunity for us all.”
