After 25 years running a building company, founder David Grigor set out to change how New Zealand builds by creating Workdek, a platform system that he says not only keeps crews safer and projects moving faster but is a “national safety revolution”.
“Workdek is a New Zealand-designed and manufactured modular work platform system that allows builders to work safely, quickly, and efficiently inside framed structures,” says Grigor.
He says it has been built on three principles – durability, simplicity, and ease of operation – with every component engineered for strength, lightness, and re-use.
“Tested and certified to British/EU standards with a working load up to 250kg per panel, Workdek provides a stable, non-slip platform that eliminates fall risk while improving onsite productivity.”
Founded in 2017, Workdek was born from a simple belief that there must be a better way to keep people safe when working at height. After 25 years in the building trade, Grigor had seen first-hand the toll that falls, fatigue, and outdated safety practices take on workers and productivity.
“I was determined to create change. and from what I had witnessed in the UK, we set out to design a platform system that would serve to prevent falls rather than simply catch them.”
In 2024, Workdek was tested by DSC Consulting, with Grigor saying that the company confirmed that Workdek not only makes sites safer but also saves construction companies money.
“Projects using Workdek complete internal framing and truss work up to 25% faster with an average 23% cost savings,” says Grigor.
From small residential builders to national construction companies, adoption is accelerating. Workdek’s nationwide network of trained installers now supports projects from Northland to Southland, with new installers coming on board to meet growing demand. The company continues to partner with scaffold and safety professionals across New Zealand who recognise that the next step in fall protection is prevention.
