MiTek milestone…

New state-of-the-art facility in New Zealand

MiTek New Zealand has announced what the company describes as a significant milestone in its operations with the consolidation of its Auckland operations into a single, state-of-the-art facility in East Tamaki. This move is the result of four years of planning and consideration and marks a major investment in the future of New Zealand’s manufacturing sector.

MiTek has commissioned a custom-built 9,450m² facility costing more than $25 million, which will employ its current team of approximately 85 full-time employees (FTEs).

In addition, there will be a capital investment of $5 million for the relocation of the sites and the investment in new state-of-the-art press capability. The new facility in East Tamaki will bring together MiTek’s Auckland teams, unifying operations under one roof. This consolidation is aimed at fostering a stronger, more collaborative culture whilst enhancing the company’s ability to deliver innovative solutions for its customers. The MiTek Christchurch facility will remain unchanged and continue to operate as usual.

“This new facility represents a generational investment in New Zealand manufacturing and will enable the construction of new homes for New Zealanders,” says David Oliver, managing director of MiTek Asia Pacific. “By uniting our Auckland teams into one dynamic, collaborative space, we’re not only future-proofing our operations but also reinforcing our commitment to the region. We believe this move will significantly enhance our ability to serve our customers and support the housing needs of New Zealand.”

The new facility will be conveniently located close to MiTek’s current Auckland sites, just 2.4km from the East Tamaki factory and 2.9km from the Highbrook warehouse. As a Greenstar-rated, 5-star facility, this project also emphasises sustainability, with a 35% increase in operations footprint and additional plant and equipment to enhance capacity and efficiency. The facility is designed not only to serve current needs but also to provide a foundation for future growth.

Key features of the new site:

• Future-proofing Auckland manufacturing: The purpose-built facility is designed to meet the evolving needs of the industry, ensuring MiTek remains at the forefront of manufacturing excellence.

• Unified operations: The consolidation will create a single, cohesive team, driving better outcomes for customers through enhanced collaboration and efficiency.

• Long-Term investment: At a total cost of more than $25 million, this new facility underscores MiTek’s long-term commitment to New Zealand and its confidence in the bright future for the industry.

• Securing sovereign capability: The new site will boost MiTek’s capacity to manufacture homes locally, utilising innovative technology to meet New Zealand’s housing demands.

• Advanced equipment: The facility will house a new nail plate press that adheres to the latest global standards, enabling increased efficiency and improved service delivery.
