New Zealand construction and infrastructure joint venture GAJV has taken delivery of the first 24 tonne Magni HTH 24.11 heavy-duty telehandler to arrive in the country.
Purchased through Magni distributor, APS Equipment NZ, the 24.11 is described by the supplier as the largest telehandler operating in New Zealand and can take 14 tonnes to its maximum lift height of 10.50 metres or 7.2 tonnes to its maximum forward reach of 5.5 metres.
Features include a Stage V Volvo engine, an RFID attachment recognition system and onboard diagnostics systems that display the available lifting chart in real time based on the load and attachment in use.
With an overall weight of 29.7 tonnes the telehandler will be used to unload and transport concrete pipes measuring 2.5 and 2.8 metres in diameter as part of the Watercare’s Central Interceptor project in Auckland. It was supplied with an hook attachment and a customised frame for the telehandler forks to protect the wall of the concrete pipe when being handled.
Darren Boon, business development director at APS Equipment, says: “GAJV have a very high focus on safety, the telehandler was chosen over a crane option so no one needed to climb onto the truck deck to secure or unsecure the loads as they arrive on site with the pipes. The Magni 24.11 telehandler also was the preferred option because of the safety features and the on-board diagnostics which show the position of the load in real time making it easier and safer for the operator.”
GAJV is a joint venture between Ghella and Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure. Specialising in tunnel construction, it is currently responsible for delivering Watercare’s Central Interceptor which, once completed, will feature close to 20 kilometres of underground tunnels measuring up to 4.5 metres in diameter from Grey Lynn, Western Springs, to Watercare’s Mangere Wastewater Treatment Plant.
